Materials
For over a hundred years, we have specialized in developing high-quality knitted materials and designing beautiful, durable functional clothing from them. Important features of Nanso products are comfort and easy care. We always choose the material that best suits the purpose, so that we can design high-quality, functional, beautiful and durable products.
In addition to tricot products made from knitwear, our collections also include products made from woven fabrics, such as linen, viscose and cotton denim. For trouser and jacket fabrics, we choose recycled polyester or high-quality blended fabrics, such as polyamide, which gives the product durability and ease of care.
Tip!
The entire life cycle of a product is of great importance in terms of environmental impact. You can find more detailed product care tips in the Care instructions section.
Material information
Cotton
Cotton is the most common renewable natural fiber used in Nanso clothing. As a material, it is breathable, durable and pleasant to the skin. Cotton withstands washing at high temperatures and is particularly suitable for sensitive skin. Cotton is often used in blends with other fibers and the fiber does not become static or is generally prone to pilling.
Organic cotton
Organic cotton is a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional cotton. Organic cotton is grown without any environmentally harmful fertilizers or pesticides. In addition, organic cotton uses up to 90% less water than conventional cotton, as rainwater is mainly used for irrigation. In 2022, GOTS cotton accounted for 17.4 percent of the cotton used by Nanso.
BCI cotton
The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) aims to raise awareness among cotton farmers about environmentally friendly farming methods and help them transition to more sustainable farming methods. In 2022, BCI cotton accounted for 6.4 percent of the cotton used by Nanso.
Recycled cotton
Recycled cotton is a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional cotton. Recycled cotton is made from textile industry waste, such as yarn and trimmings. Using recycled cotton saves 2,700 liters of water for every t-shirt produced, as new raw materials do not need to be cultivated.
Flax
Linen is also a more environmentally friendly alternative to cotton, as it uses significantly less water, fertilizers and pesticides in its cultivation. In addition, linen is a more durable fiber than cotton. Thanks to its excellent thermal conductivity, linen is a popular summer material. In the heat, linen feels pleasantly cool on warm skin. Linen also absorbs moisture well and dries quickly.
Villa
Wool is a warm and breathable material that cleans itself. Wool clothing does not need to be washed as often as clothing made of cotton or synthetic fibers, for example. Wool absorbs up to 30% of its own weight in water. When wearing wool clothing, the skin stays dry and warm. We only use mulesing-free merino wool. In 2022, 70% of animal fibers were certified (RMS, RAS, RWS).
EcoVero™ viscose
Starting with the Fall 2020 collection, we are switching to EcoVero™ viscose in our viscose knitwear. The cellulose used in its production comes from responsibly managed European forests (FSC® or PEFC™ certified) and the origin of the fiber can be traced to the finished product. The EcoVero™ viscose used by Nanso is spun in Portugal. It has received the EU Ecolabel because its production takes place in a closed loop and its production uses 50% less water and energy than regular viscose.
Lyocell
Lyocell is a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional viscose, as its production requires less energy and harmful chemicals. In addition, 99% of the chemicals used in production can be recycled for reuse. The raw material for Lyocell is usually fast-growing eucalyptus or other cellulose-based raw materials. Lyocell gives strong and bright colors that remain good from wash to wash. The knitwear has a dull sheen and feels soft, silky and drapes beautifully.
Modal
Modal is a viscose-like cellulose-modified fiber that is made from beech cellulose. Modal is a fiber with a matte sheen and a cotton-like feel. When mixed with cotton, modal makes knitwear pleasantly soft. Modal adds a beautiful drape and a sophisticated matte sheen to knitwear. Nanso's nightwear is traditionally made from a cotton-modal blend.

How can you make more responsible choices?
You make a more responsible choice when you buy thoughtfully, treat your products with care and invest in quality. Buy clothes that you can wear all year round and that you know will last dozens of times. Read the product's care instructions and take care of them accordingly. Then you can enjoy your clothes for longer. Nanso's high-quality products can also be sold, donated or recycled when you no longer want to use them.
